Hi there! Welcome to the South Coast Writer.

I’m Brooke, a Freelance Writer with a deep love of literary nonfiction. I watched too many episodes of the Australian television series SeaChange, married a guy named Dan and moved to the South Coast of NSW from South West Sydney, via Melbourne.

I often write for arts institutions, cultural organisations, and non-profits, and I’m currently an event assistant for South Coast Writer’s Centre. But my main interest is creative nonfiction and writing book and exhibition reviews.

Planning (hoping) to read my way through the Stella Prize longlist this year, starting with Iris by @fionakellymcgreg

Here’s a small extract of a recent review:

Current read: The Puzzleheaded Girl by Christina Stead (1967).

It’s actually four novellas and really enjoying it so far. The character Honor Lawrence is interesting as drawn entirely through other perspectives (and expectations).
